Braun Series 5 FAQs What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers? Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. Can I buy a solo shaver and upgrade with a Clean & Charge Station later? No, shaver and Clean & Charge Station are designed to interlink during the cleaning procedure.
Shavers being sold without the Clean & Charge Station, dont have the technology to connect accordingly. How often do I need to exchange the Clean & Charge refill cartridge? If you clean your shaver with the Clean & Charge Station twice a week, you will only need to replace the refill cartridge every 2 to 3 months to experience a shaver like new, every day. The Save & Subscribe option from Amazon allows you to subscribe for a regular home delivery and at the same time save 10% on the price of the Clean & Charge refill.
You don't have to think about it and always have a Clean & Charge refill available when you need it. Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver? We recommend that you shave before you take a shower.
However, the Braun Series 5 8985 electric razor giv. Get using an electric razor and is on par to a manual razor (safety razor or straight razor).
After a few days without shaving, for example over a weekend, you should trim your stubble before you shave. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at right angles (90°) to your skin. In difficult to shave areas like under the nose you can also use the MultiHeadLock switch to lock the shaver head and manually set one of five available shaver head angles as it suits best to your needs.
Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 5 features an integrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.
How often do I need to change the shaver head? We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months. Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops? No, the Series 5 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect.
You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting batteries available for Braun shavers. I own the old Braun Series 5 5140 and so I was excited to see how this new model compares. I was particularly interested to see how it performed as a wet shaver. Firstly, out of the box it is incredibly easy to set up and start using. The controls are very easy and it feels nice to hold -it feels like a premium product.
There is the option of either having the shaver head fixed or moving. Personally, I believe you get a better cut if you leave it on fixed all the time. When you are dry shaving it performs very well. Not quite as smooth as a blade razor cut, but still very good and certainly good enough for day to day use. My only criticism is when you try to use it as a wet shaver with gel and this is because it leaves a lot of hair shavings on your face and this takes a bit longer to clean up at the end - without any noticeable improvement in comfort or closeness of shave. It is easy to clean as you can pop the shaver head off and run it under the tap. Overall I am happy with the product and use it most days.
This review was collected as part of a promotion. Yes, I recommend this product! My last electric shaver was a Braun Wet & Dry shaver from 4 years ago but this version of their Wet & Dry is definitely a cut above that.
One of the disappointing parts of my previous shaver was the trimmer attachment but this has improved to be something that is useable. The feature that allows the head to move in a rocking motion as it moves over the face and chin is brilliant and I think makes for a closer shave as the shavehead stays at the right angle to the skin. You can also lock the position of the shavehead which comes in handy when edging up to your sideburns or beard edge. The fact that it is water resistant to 5 metres means I don't feel conscious about ruining it when cleaning the shaver or using it in the shower. Overall this is a great piece of kit and well worth a purchase if you want an alternative to a wet shave as it gives a really close shave which in my opinion is the best I have ever had from any of my previous electric shavers over the last 25 years. Cleaning the shave head is easy as a simple click of the side buttons and it pops off. The battery is powerful too and lasts for ages with a quick charge too.
The only thing I miss is a simple padded travel pouch in the box but that wouldn't put me off buying it. If you are in the market for a new shaver then don't hesitate to buy Braun Series 5 5140s. This review was collected as part of a promotion.
Yes, I recommend this product! Having used electric shavers for several years now, I thought I knew what to expect, but was blown away with the new Braun 5140s.

The smooth shave achieved from an electric shaver was like nothing before and felt as close as a wet shave, just without the hasssle. It is so versatile in the ways it can be used, like even in the shower, which saves time in the morning before work. Someone commented at work if I had a Turkish shave, but it was just my new Braun shaver. It is so easy to charge, use and clean and the battery lasts way longer than any of my previous shavers. Overall an outstanding product, highly recommended.

This review was collected as part of a promotion. Yes, I recommend this product! Over the years I have tried a fair number of electric shavers and have always found myself reverting to a wet shave following disappointment in the results.
On reading about the features offered by the Braun 5140; wet or dry, the option to use shaving foam or in the shower I was hopeful that this could finally be the product to keep me from the manual razor. As is typical of a Braun product the shaver is well packaged, although the contents (shaver, charging plug, protective cap, cleaning brush, user manual) were well short of filling the box to capacity. While I feel capable of wielding a shaver straight from the box, I was drawn to the 140 page manual. Something of this size must have some relevant details which may be important and I was keen to find out more about using with shaving foam or in the shower. On closer examination of the manual I soon found that my hope of it containing any useful information had been misplaced. The English language section was just 5 pages long with a further 2 pages at the front illustrating the 5 series range (at least I had plenty of time to determine which of the illustrations were for features on another model as I was not going to have to read all 140 pages). Nowhere in the manual was there any mention of using shaving foam or using in the shower, the shaving tips section even stated “always shave before washing your face”.
I was beginning to think this was not the product I had previously read about. The shaver itself feels really comfortable and sturdy in the hand and seems well made. The unit is quick to charge and appears to retain power well. It will obviously depend on how long you use the device, however, I found I was getting at least 2 weeks before I even needed to think about recharging.
On first use I kept things simple; basic dry shave with 1 day stubble. Initial impressions were very good, the flexible head was excellent and no matter what the angle it was held the foil seemed to be in constant contact with my face. The results seemed to be impressive with the added bonus of not experiencing the painful shaving rash which I normally suffer. Unfortunately before long I realised that the finish was not as smooth or constant as I had thought and I had missed several spot particularly under the jaw line. Next day, after paying extra attention to the awkward spots I was rewarded with a smooth consistent shave. Next challenge, how would it cope with a few days growth? Once again, providing sufficient time and attention is given the results are excellent, with the shaver powering through with ease.
The shaver is easy to clean, simply tap to clear the cassette or run under the tap (it would have been nice if the recommended light machine oil had been included). With shaving foam – I have to confess to being dubious about this, however I sparingly applied some shaving gel and was surprised at how the shaver appeared to not be negatively affected. After a while I noticed that the foam appeared to be clogging the foil and the shaver was not cutting very well. A quick rinse under the tap the foil was clear and the shaver was working again, unfortunately despite attempting to shake the water out of the shaver it was dripping everywhere as I continued to shave. In all I had to rinse the foil three times during the shave and by the end had water, foam etc dripping everywhere. While the shaver may work with foam or when wet, I couldn’t recommend it; it’s much harder to check that you haven’t missed bits then you have to clear up the mess which has been dripping from the shaver. In conclusion, as a basic dry shaver I would highly recommend the Braun 5 series.
While it can’t match the closeness of a wet razor, with a little perseverance it produces an excellent close shave even in the awkward spots. Add to that the fact that I’m still to experience any form of shaving rash and I certainly won’t be reverting back to a razor any time soon. As for the wet use or with foam, well while I may not have been impressed the shaver shines without the need of these gimmicks. This review was collected as part of a promotion.
Yes, I recommend this product! I have been an electric razor user for over a year now after 20+ years of wet shaving.
After much research I originally opted for a braun 7 series, simply due to the fact that it came with a cleaning unit in the charger. I was recently introduced to the braun 5140 and though in name it appears to be a lesser model than the 7 series, it most definitely isn't. Firstly it looks good and feels solid in the hand. I first used it for 2 days growth and it handled it no problem (I have a decent growth after 24hrs), I then used it daily for a couple of weeks and only had to charge it once more. I also used it on 4 days growth recently and though it took a bit longer the end result was just as good.
The trimmer tool is very useful and the facility to fix the head into a single position helps for the final sweep to make sure you haven't missed anywhere. I would definitely recommend this shaver if you don't need fancy add ons like charger stands and cleaners.
I keep this one at work now and use it regularly. This review was collected as part of a promotion. Yes, I recommend this product! I was a bit sceptical about this at first as I have always had a wet shave on my neck and sides and an electric razor for the front as I have never found a razor that can successfully shave the lot without missing bits. When I received the razor I was immediately impressed by the sleekness and build quality, the charge was almost instant and uts still on its first charge after 2 weeks, the first shave was excellent and I only needed this and not the wet shave aswell, its super fast saving me 5 minutes per shave leaving me feeling like I have had a cut throat shave every time, I would recommend Thi to anybody wanting to save time and have a super close shave at the same time. Yes, I recommend this product! I've led my adult life believing that to get a shave that leaves your skin feeling silky smooth you need to lather up and use a wet shaver and if you wanted a quick shave you'd use a electric razor leaving you with a face that could light a match with. Then I used the Braun series 5 shaver. I now know a silky smooth shave is possible without setting up camp in the bathroom. The battery lasts a long time and I know exactly how much is left in it thanks to the battery display. I can also shave in the shower/bath so those wet shaver people can no longer hold that above our electric heads.
All in all colour me impressed. This review was collected as part of a promotion. Yes, I recommend this product!
The Braun Series 5 is a lovely shaver, quick to charge, and halves the time taken by my old shaver to clear facial hair growth. It seems quieter in operation too, and does indeed cover the varied contours of my complexion without missing anything, as per manufacturers claim. I'm very pleased with it, because shaving can be a time consuming chore, and this shaver is quick, smooth and efficient.
All in all a comfortable experience, and as such I recommend this product without hesitation. This review was collected as part of a promotion. Yes, I recommend this product! I love this shaver it really does give you a silky smooth shave with no soreness left afterwards. The adjustable head really helps hug the skin and ensures you get all those awkward little hairs that are often missed by other shavers. The whole feel of the build of this shaver is great, it sits very comfortable in your hand, with a soft touch rubber grip and stylish anodised blue features.
The fact that this shaver is also wet and dry makes it perfect for the shower, and means you can wash it after use without fear of damaging it. This review was collected as part of a promotion. Yes, I recommend this product!
